Chrono Trigger turns back the clock on PSN this Tuesday

Whether you consider it the greatest game ever made or almost the greatest game ever made, for many Chrono Trigger is "the tops," perhaps even "the bee's knees." On Tuesday, October 4, it can be yours through PSN, the PlayStation Blog reports. There's no word on price right now, but for some that probably won't be much of an issue.

And if you don't know what Chrono Trigger is, congratulations on being young! Eat some bacon and put on your favorite dubstep number. You're far too busy knowing everything to care about a video game fossil like this.

FIFA Street revival arrives March 2012

Announced at EA's Gamescom 2011 press conference, FIFA Street has narrowed its launch window from early 2012 to "March." VG247 reports that EA announced the month of kickoff at last night's FIFA 12 launch event in the UK. Copies of FIFA 12 also reportedly have a pamphlet inside the box mentioning the March date.

Not a whole lot is known about the FIFA Street reboot. We know EA Sports Season Ticket holders will receive early access to the full game, and that it features the EA Football Club, along with social network goodies. We expect to find out a lot more after EA Sports gets its biggest sports franchise out the door globally.

Skullgirls delayed, cracking craniums in 2012

Downloadable fighter Skullgirls will launch in early 2012, Reverge Labs has announced. The key reason for the delay, according to the developer, is that the team is polishing the game's features, based on feedback it received while showing the game off during 2011.

"Some companies call this 'feature creep,' but we call it the extra polish that takes a game from 'good' to 'great,'" noted Peter Bartholow, Designer/Producer/Community Manager at Reverge Labs.

Additions the studio is working on before launch include speeding up the game, adding many new effects, upgrading backgrounds to 3D, incorporating more music from Michiru Yamane, adding button macros for pad playing and "innumerable balance and gameplay tweaks."

Rage requires 3 discs on Xbox 360, 8GB install on PS3, tolerance from fans

Rage will span three discs on Xbox 360 and require an 8GB install on PS3, id Software creative director Tim Willits has confirmed. It was rumored that Rage would have a large install and multiple discs on 360, but it seemed as if id was leaning toward a slim-and-trim two-disc set, stating that a separate multiplayer disc-swap would be "fail." id didn't have to pick a disc number for the PS3 version of Rage, effectively utilizing the Blu-ray drive to hold all of the game's gigs, something that Willits seemed very pleased about:

"Sony was great," Willits said. "Kudos to Sony for letting us do that. They don't allow every game to do that. So definitely, hats off. What we were able to do is install all the textures to the highest level. What is nice about the PS3 platform is that it's just one platform. Everyone has one Blu-ray drive, one hard drive, it's all the same. Some of the other systems you have... should I install it on my 360? Should I not install it? So yes, it's very nice."

For 360 versions, Willits said id recommends installing the game to the hard drive, or if you don't have the space for all 22GB, after installing and finishing the first half of the game from disc one, uninstall it, and then install disc two. There isn't a reason to disc-swap after completing the first half, and "you don't really need to install the multiplayer disc if you're really tight on hard disk space," Willits said.

Gears of War 3, F1 2011 race to top of UK charts

Gears of War 3, F1 2011 race to top of UK charts

Codemaster's annual F1 racing series would have taken the checkered flag for a second year in its debut week on the UK charts, but with competition like Gears of War 3 it'll have to settle for a respectable second place finish. According to Chart-Track, Epic's conclusion to the Gears trilogy sold nearly as many copies in its first week on sale as the first two combined during their launch weeks. Gears 3 is the seventh largest Xbox 360 launch to date (Call of Duty: Black Ops rules that roost).

Zombie RPG Dead Island won't die. Having held the top spot for the past two weeks, the title finally shambles on down to third. It's poetic, really, since it's keeping Zumba Fitness company. The unholy fitness game, which danced into fourth last week, must be a death walker since it refuses to die, despite insane competition.

Zumba Fitness keeps selling as Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Driver: San Francisco, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine and Resistance 3 slip down the charts. Check out the UK top ten after the break.

Splinter Cell Trilogy infiltrates shelves and PSN on Sept. 27
Following several delays and a European release, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Trilogy is finally set to launch in North America this week on Tuesday, September 27. The high-definition espionage saga should be slipping onto shelves in Blu-ray guise, and in a downloadable bundle on the PlayStation Store. There's no fiscal benefit to the digital version, as Ubisoft says they both cost $39.99.

All three games in Splinter Cell Trilogy support stereoscopic 3D and improved identification with series protagonist Sam Fisher, who must also wear uncomfortable visual gadgetry on his head. The original game, its sequel, Pandora Tomorrow, and Chaos Theory all support native 1080p rendering (though 720p output must be disabled in the XMB for Chaos Theory).

According to the tech-savvy scrutinizers at Digital Foundry, the level of care shown in Splinter Cell's HD update is about on par with the economical work in the Prince of Persia HD trilogy. Its relative condemnation identifies the trio as "very basic conversions" of the PC games with rudimentary interface adjustments. The first two games reportedly perform in "an average manner," multiplayer has been cut, and textures are "disappointing." The standout title, DF concludes, is Chaos Theory, which "manages to acquit itself fairly well six years after its initial release."

New Xbox 360 transfer cable allows S to S exchanges, solves your distress
One notable shortcoming of Microsoft's existing Xbox 360 transfer cable is bullet-pointed out right on the order page: "Cannot be used to transfer data between two Xbox 360 S hard drives."

When the svelte Xbox 360 S was brand new, this was hardly a problem at all; everyone was too busy not having their console die repeatedly to even notice this soon-to-be shortcoming. And now, while your S may not have given up the digi-ghost just yet, it's entirely plausible that many of you traded up for the 320GB Gears of War 3 model and, in so doing, have discovered the above bullet point for yourself. You're in luck, however, since Microsoft's Major Nelson writes, "We have a new cable (pictured) that will handle Xbox 360 S to Xbox 360 S transfers. Head over to xbox.com/transfer to see how you can order the proper transfer cable."

The bad news: Xbox.com hasn't been updated with this purported information as of publishing time, so you'll have to take Major Nelson's proclamation as an early alert or, better yet, follow his advice. "Call support if you have any questions or you want to order from them to make sure you're getting the cable you need." Or if you just want someone to talk to – we get it.

Kevin Butler is at it again, this time tweeting a mysterious commercial that teases some sort of reveal for October 5. The commercial tells the story of two paratroopers entering a strange nightclub of sorts and is packed with PlayStation references, including Sweet Tooth's van from Twisted Metal, a Metal Gear Mk. II and a photo of Parappa the Rapper. We're also fairly certain we spotted a PlayStation 9 in there.

Game Informer surmises the ad is merely a precursor to Sony's holiday marketing blitz. It's a likely possibility, though the darkest parts of Joystiq's collective psyche fear it may be related to the relaunch of PlayStation Home.

Mojang Specifications has announced that the pint-sized version of its big ol' indie hit, Minecraft Pocket Edition, will arrive on Android devices September 29. The studio also released a video showing how the title will operate without the handy slide-out joypad of its original platform, the Xperia Play. You can watch said demonstration through the thumbs of the man seen in the video above.

We're not sure if a button-free input scheme is going to give us the kind of creative freedom we'll need to build our miles-wide masterpieces, but it should let us create a few smaller opuses; like the Tiny Washington Monument, or the Tiny Pyramide du Louvre.

Rumor: Dead Space 3 plot details leaked

There's not much surprise to be found in the rumored existence of another Dead Space sequel, is there? According to purported plot details published by Siliconera, however, you're in for less of a shock and more of a creeping, unshakeable chill. (Dead Space 3 has not been announced, so beware of potential spoilers beyond this point.)

According to the site's mole, Dead Space 3 dumps perennially imperiled engineer Isaac Clarke on Tau Volantis, a frigid planet blanketed in snowstorms. Donning a snowsuit (with temperature indicated inconveniently on the back?), he attempts to locate lost friends and other signs of humanity. And we can't imagine a bit of unpleasant weather deterring those despicable necromorphs.

The change of location (if accurately reported) sounds intriguing, though we won't hear more until EA decides to announce Dead Space 3 officially. Last we heard, Dead Space 2 had shipped over 2 million copies -- enough to be deemed one of EA's "strong, growing franchises."
